Tour of Cedar Hill High School
September 21, 2004
I would like to express my appreciation to the School Board for inviting the City Council to tour the various schools in CHISD. Today, I toured the Cedar Hill High School. Our hosts were Board Trustees Amy Allen and Dan Hernandez, Principal Lincoln Butler and Superintendent Jim Gibson. My fellow council members, Mayor Rob Franke, Mayor Pro Tem Cory Spillman, Greg Patton and Dan Hayden were also present.
Our tour started with a general Q & A. Principal Butler said the biggest challenges facing the High School are lack of family involvement and instilling a sense of school pride. I was impressed by Butler’s pride in his school and his positive attitude. Standardized dress was the greatest thing that happened to the district, he said.
During our tour, the school was clean, the students well-behaved and engaged in their classes.
I hope these tours represent just the beginning of a community effort to improve the educational experience in Cedar Hill.
